The Towers made it two in a row as they claimed a thrilling overtime win at home on Sunday. In driving rain and in front of a scarce crowd the Towers won 21-20 over the Slagelse Wolfpack.

In a game that went back and forth throughout regulation, the Towers needed just one possession in overtime (played by NCAA rules) to record one of the greatest team effort wins in recent memory.

With the game tied 14-14 at the end of regulation the Towers scored on their first possession from the 25-yard line on a 1-yard run by QB JR Artozqui.

Henrik Levysohn tagged on the extra point to make the score 21-14. Forced to score a touchdown on their first overtime possession the Wolfpack got a spectacular play from their American QB Daniel Eidson. With two Towers defenders wrapped around his legs, Eidson seemed to defy gravity as he completed a pass to a wide open receiver in the end zone.

The score now being 21-20, Wolfpack head coach Rasmus Ryberg left his offense on the field to attempt a 2-point conversion. The gamble came within 1 yard of succeeding as Eidson found nothing but open field as he scrambled right. However, Towers safety Javier Ortega made the game winning tackle on the 1-yard line.

Both teams had had problems kicking extra points and missed both their first attempts. Thus both head coaches decided to attempt 2-point conversions after their second touchdowns and both times they succeeded.

Considering the heavy rain both teams were expected to focus on the running game. However, both QBs played well in the passing game and neither team saw much production from their running backs. Towers’ JR Artozqui repeatedly exploited openings in the Wolfpack defense and gained a whopping 169 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns, while passing for another. After the game Artozqui commented on the weather “I’m from California. I’m not used to the rain, but it’s the same for everyone, so you just play”.

The win moves the Towers into second place and drops the Wolfpack into third place in the National Conference. The Towers hold a 2-2 record, while the Wolfpack are 2-3.

Towers linebacker Casper Jensen played an outstanding game. He is in only his second season as a football player, but has a natural instinct to always be around the ball. He made several big tackles, recorded a QB sack, batted two passes down and recovered a blocked field goal attempt.

After the game Towers head coach William Miller was ecstatic: “I’m so proud of the guys. They hung in there and fought until the end. This was a great team effort.”
